Hello world!

The Potter family has been a trusted name in construction throughout Hertfordshire and beyond for over 50 years. Founded by Richard and Elizabeth Potter, R C Potter Ltd started as expert plasterers and quickly evolved into specialists in home extensions and conversions. By the 1980s, we focused on building new homes for local developers, taking on roles as both main contractors and development partners.
After navigating the challenges of the early 1990s recession, Russell Potter joined the firm, shifting our focus to commercial projects, larger extensions, and bespoke house builds.
In 2006, RCP Contractors Ltd was established to carry on our family tradition, with Tom Potter joining in 2007. Today, we are a well-respected local contractor, handling a diverse array of residential, commercial, and light industrial projects. Russell’s retirement in April 2024 marked a new chapter in our journey.
Now at the helm, Tom Potter brings over 20 years of construction project management experience, backed by his degree from Nottingham University. Before joining RCP, he trained as a site manager at Wilmot Dixon, one of the UK’s leading construction firms. Daily operations are seamlessly managed by his wife, Lauren.
Our dedicated team includes a mix of directly employed staff and trusted subcontractors, most of whom are based in mid-Herts and have been with us for 5 to 30 years. This strong rapport fosters a collaborative environment, ensuring efficient and safe project management with clear communication among all parties, workers, directors, and clients alike.

Streamlined 3-Stage Approach
Start by appointing an architect to create the plans for your project. Once you’ve agreed on the designs, these plans will be submitted to the local planning authority for approval.
Inclusions: Be sure to include any major changes to gardens and driveways in your submission as well.
Once planning permission is granted, the project parameters are set. Your architect will refine the drawings to include construction details like drainage layouts, insulation, ventilation, and critical measurements.
Submission for Approval: The marked-up drawings, along with the engineer’s details and calculations, will be submitted to the local authority building control or a private authority for approval. Building control acts as the structural warrantor for your project.
Some architects may offer a separate document for this stage at an additional cost, but clients can also compile it themselves. This document outlines your specific needs and preferences, including:
Landscaping and Glazing: Areas not shown on drawings
Once these three stages are complete, we’ll have all the relevant information needed to provide an accurate and realistic price for your project, ensuring you achieve your desired outcome.
